Psychotherapist, Life Coach, Educational Consultant & Advocate
I am passionate about helping people of all ages. I am a Life Coach, Psychotherapist, Educational Consultant and Advocate. For the latter, I work with young children and families through college students. I also provide college counseling to help students make the transition from high school to college emotionally and through strategies. My specialties include: grief, including survivors of suicide, anxiety and depression.
I have a wealth of experience, knowledge and wisdom from working as a school psychologist for thirty years as well as relevant life experience. As a school psychologist, I performed psychological and educational testing, Planning and Placement Team (PPT) coordination, and group and individual counseling. Counseling included crisis intervention and the areas of grief, anxiety, substance abuse, divorce/blended families, and understanding and coping with one’s disabilities. My background, while working in public education, also included private psycho educational testing for children and adults, counseling, and educational consulting and advocacy which often involved attending Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings and 504 meetings.
In addition, I have over ten years of experience in the field of special education, including teaching in a public school system and the development and implementation of a special education program in a private high school where I also provided college and personal counseling (group and individual). I continue to hold State of CT Professional Educator certifications in both School Psychology and Comprehensive Special Education (K-12).
My goal since I was young was to help others to develop more self-esteem and a strong sense of self. I see this as being at the root of being successful in school and life. I am a calm, compassionate, nonjudgmental person who is easy for most people to connect with and feel comfortable with. In my private practice, I offer a peaceful, safe setting where I approach each person as a unique, worthy individual who deserves to be listened to and encouraged in his or her journey toward positive change and contentment. I am flexible in finding the approach that works best for each client helping him or her to identify his or her needs to attain self-growth and a sense of competence and confidence as a person. I love being part of this process and watching the results. Therapy is not a quick fix, but a process that we will share together.
