I have been working nationally and internationally to develop methods of interviewing, assessment, and treatment for clinical and forensic clients since the mid 1990’s. I take a holistic approach to health and well-being. I help clients to find peace, joy, and strength, and to use this grounding and efficacy to change themselves and their world. Therapy is a transformative experience, a process of becoming, with the goal of the client thriving within their unique existence. As a therapist, I have a wealth of experience working with adolescents and adults who experience Autism Spectrum Disorder, Victims and Witnesses of Trauma, Personality Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and Depression. I am also skilled at working with family members of those with major mental health concerns. I help Couples learn to balance acceptance and change, and grow together into a deeper relationship. I also help parents and caregivers come to understand how to deal with their particular challenges, and to optimize their child’s development and ability to regulate and manage behavior. I have a special affinity for the challenges faced by adolescents, and enjoy working with them individually and as part of a family unit.
I am highly-skilled at Diagnostic and Clinical Interviewing, Assessment, Psychological Testing, and Report Writing. The services I can provide include, but are not limited to: Clinical, Neurocognitive, and Educational assessment for children (7 years and older) as well as adults; testing of children (CARS) and adults (ADOS) for Autism Spectrum Disorder, Personality Assessment, Functional Assessment of Behavior, etc. I provide Clinical and Forensic assessments for Disability under the Individuals with Disabilities Act, and related acts, for those who need accommodations for education or in the workplace. Forensically, I am skilled at assessment Risk of Violence and future Dangerousness, Competence to Stand Trial (I created one of the leading tests in this area), Mental State at the Time of the Offense/NGRI, etc. I also provide assessment of interview and interrogation transcripts, and testimony in potential false confession cases. In addition to my private practice, I am a Professor of Psychology at Southern Connecticut State, where I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Advanced Psychopathology, Assessment and Report Writing, Seminar in Theory and Technique in Psychotherapy, Assessment and Report Writing, Psychology and Law, and I am the Director of the Office of Psychological Assessment.
